About the event
Our 80th anniversary season concludes with The School For Scandal by Richard Brinsley Sheridan, adapted and directed by Richard Brown. When wealthy Uncle Oliver returns from a lifetime in the Indies, he has to decide whether to bestow his fortune on the saintly, sober and morally perfect Joseph, or the wastrel drunkard Charles. All is watched over, not only by the obsessive society of wagging tongues headed by the scheming Lady Sneerwell, but also by Sir Peter Teazle who has ascended to marital bliss with a young wife only to find utter misery. But in the claustrophobic society driven by scandal, all is not as it seems. Indeed practically everything is the opposite of how it appears. This version of the play has been adapted by Richard Brown to make it fast moving and much more in keeping with the pace of modern comedy.
