About the event

Arts Alive! Season at The Commemoration Hall

Godmanchester at War by Roger Leivers

Due out early September 2021.

Godmanchester is typical of thousands of other similar sized towns across Great Britain. As you would expect it has the same stories to tell of its fallen, its children and evacuees who came to escape the terror of the Blitz. Those left behind who served with the ARP and the Home Guard, and the enduring rivalry with Huntingdon.

But Godmanchester is different, it has a hidden side, a secret side. A story of people who came to serve in the SOE and SIS, of foreign agents preparing to be dropped into occupied Europe, colourful characters whose lives are worthy of a documentary, stories of survival against the odds and a dog, awarded a Commendation as one of the first PTSD dogs over 70 years after the war ended.

Roger will be signing this book and his previous book “Stirling to Essen”.
