About the event
Our Country’s Good is an adaptation of Thomas Keneally’s 1987 novel The Playmaker. Set in the first Australian penal colony and based on real events, the play sees a naval officer stage George Farquhar’s 1709 comedy The Recruiting Officer using prisoners as his cast. Our production updates the play to a modern-day prison setting where actors as 'inmates' tell this remarkable true story. This production will be presented in 'thrust stage' style with audience on 3 sides, creating a more intimate space between actors and audience. This style of staging limits our seating capacity and for that reason all tickets are priced at £12.
